I feel very sorry for these people and I hope that they will recover quickly – said Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz in “Fakty po Faktach”, referring to the officers injured by foreigners on the border with Belarus. – But I also wonder why, in cases where it is not necessary, they are so close to this fence that an attack can be carried out – admitted the former prime minister, currently an MEP.

Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz – former Prime Minister, former head of the Ministry of Diplomacy and Justice, and currently a MEP and candidate of the Left in the coming elections to the EP – he said in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the planned by the Ministry of Interior and Administration to introduce a temporary ban on staying in a specific area in the border zone, adjacent to the border Belarus. The draft regulation, which was agreed on Wednesday, provides that this ban will apply in 27 poviats and would be introduced from June 4 for 90 days.

– I feel very sorry for these people and I hope they recover quickly. But I also wonder why, in cases where it is not necessary, they are so close to this fence that an attack can be made on them within reach – he said.

He indicated that “a dozen or so days ago, a radiotelephone was stolen from one of the guards.” The foreigner – said the former prime minister – “reached out his hand”.

– Why do they even come over there? In my opinion, this is unprofessional – he said. He admitted that “of course there are places where this direct contact is inevitable.” As he pointed out, “a small river, Przegląd, flows across the border, it was impossible to build this fence there.” – Therefore, there is a direct confrontation there. But again, it seems to me that various other repulsive measures could be used to discourage attempts to cross the border, he continued. – For example, you can use – in the summer, it wouldn't be cruel – pouring water with a strong conscience. There is a river, it could be done – he argued.

This week, in a short period of time, it happened three attacks on Polish officers on the Polish-Belarusian border. Near Dubicze Cerkiewne, a soldier was stabbed, and a few hours earlier, migrants attacked the Border Guard there with a broken bottle and a knife attached to a stick. As a result of these events, a soldier and a Border Guard officer were injured. An attack on border guards also took place in the area of the Border Guard station in Białowieża.

Buffer zone on the border. “This is reminiscent of the solution used by PiS”

Cimoszewicz said that the decision about the buffer zone would be made to “strengthen the safety of our officers.” At the same time, he admitted: – I don't see the connection, I don't understand the connection.

As he said, “the joke is that the safety of these officers is threatened by foreigners who are outside the fence.” – I have not heard of any case of fighting with those who have already crossed the border – he added.

– Unfortunately, I say it with regret, this is reminiscent of the solution used by PiS in the past, when the point was simply that no one should observe what was happening at the border. I do not see, in connection with the safety of officers, the fact that 27 towns (districts – ed.) are being closed – he said.

Operation “Sluice” – a crisis caused by Lukashenko

Migration crisis on the borders of Belarus with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia was triggered by Alexander Lukashenko, who is accused of waging a hybrid war. It involves the organized transfer of migrants to the territory of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. During over 28 years of his rule, Lukashenko has often threatened Europe with weakening border control.

The operation of bringing migrants to Belarus from the Middle East or Africa in order to cause a migration crisis was previously described on his blog by Tadeusz Giczan, a journalist from the Belarusian opposition channel Nexta. He explained that the Belarusian services are conducting the “Sluice” operation invented 10 years ago. Under the guise of trips to Minsk and promising to transfer to Western Europe, the Lukashenko regime brought thousands of migrants to Belarus. Then he transports them to the borders of EU countries, where Belarusian services force them to cross them illegally. This operation is still ongoing.

False PAP cable. Cimoszewicz: it looked like a poorly thought-out message

Cimoszewicz also spoke about the “attack on the website of the Polish Press Agency.”

On Friday afternoon, it was published twice on the PAP website a false telegram indicating a decision about alleged military conscription ordered by the Prime Minister. Its source was not PAP. The services – including the Internal Security Agency – took action to detect the perpetrators just a few minutes after the potential hybrid attack.

– In my opinion, the content was so unreliable that you would have to be a very gullible person to believe that the mobilization would also include civilians. And the fact that the person ordering the mobilization, i.e. the government, declares in advance that all these people will go to Ukraine, fight in Ukraine – said Cimoszewicz on TVN24. – It looked like a poorly thought-out message to me, but the attack itself was a serious event – he added.

Cimoszewicz: if you can identify the source of false information, why not attack there?

Cimoszewicz was also asked to comment on the words US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who emphasized that “the Kremlin is intensifying its attacks,” among other things, “organizing more and more cyberattacks and continuing to spread disinformation.” “We know what they are up to, and we will respond individually and collectively if necessary,” Blinken said.

The MEP was asked what he thought was behind such a declaration. Cimoszewicz replied that during his work in the European Parliament committee dealing with the fight against disinformation, he repeatedly asked “why we do not use such weapons, which, in my opinion, would be the most effective form of fight – retaliation.” – But not retaliation by disinforming another society, but by infecting sources of false information – he explained.

He recalled that “a few years ago, Iranian nuclear industry computers in uranium enrichment centers were infected.” – They were infected by Americans or Israelis, we don't know for sure, and this program was not implemented for a few months – he said.

– If you can identify the source of some false information, why not attack this source and infect computers? – he wondered. – I never received a convincing answer. They said it was difficult. It's definitely difficult. But perhaps this is what Blinken has in mind, added Cimoszewicz.

“Kaczyński is most responsible for all this”

The TVN24 guest also commented on the Justice Fund scandal. Irregularities that occurred when the administrator was the former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobroconcern, among other things, the allocation of money according to party interests.

According to Cimoszewicz, “The Justice Fund, so abused, so recklessly squandered on what are essentially political goals in many cases, is only a fragment of a larger whole.” – There were many funds of this type in various ministries – he said. He pointed out that “tens, hundreds of millions of zlotys were wasted.” “All this, in my opinion, requires explanation,” he said.

In his opinion, “the Supreme Audit Office is doing a good job” and “it is necessary to refer to the post-audit findings.” – But the prosecutor's office has very big tasks here – he noted.

He said that “what happened in the Ministry of Justice is truly a stunning scandal.” – Not only did the deputy minister or minister determine who would win the tender, but later there was obvious fraud, which in itself was a violation of the law. They are preparing to testify. How can they lie in these testimonies to try to avoid responsibility – he pointed out, referring to tapes published in the media with alleged conversations of people dealing with the Fund.

– I am convinced that it will happen more and more often that people involved in this, pardon the expression, will try to obtain the status of a crown witness and will talk about it and reveal it all – he continued.

– But I am not sure whether the prosecutor's office will zealously explain and prosecute all this – he admitted. He argued that “it is still largely in the hands of Mr. Ziobro's nominees.” – At the operational level, at the district level, in many cases these prosecutor's office units are still managed by people who have discredited themselves with their decisions in recent years. Decisions known to the public. I don't really understand why the Attorney General and the National Attorney aren't making the absolutely necessary change. Otherwise, the prosecutor's office will not respond to obvious signals, he said.

The host of the program pointed out that representatives of the ruling coalition claim that Sovereign Poland – which held managerial positions in the Ministry of Justice and managed the Justice Fund – is part of the United Right. She asked whether PiS should take co-responsibility for the scandal.

– He is, of course, the man most responsible for all this Jaroslaw Kaczynski – Cimoszewicz replied. – He was the creator of these political formations, he ruled with an iron fist. He was the one who brought back, for example, (Zbigniew) Ziobro or (Adama) Bielana after their previous rebellions to this mainstream politics. He was the one who gave them a chance, he was the one who influenced them to take up high positions and so on. So he bears the greatest responsibility. This is political responsibility, this is moral responsibility, he said. According to him, “if it is possible to point out and prove to Mr. Kaczyński that he also broke the law, this should be done.”
