Official from Zwoleń detained for accepting bribes

Police officers from the provincial police headquarters in Radom have detained an official suspected of accepting bribes from sports activities animators. The 58-year-old was caught red-handed when he accepted one thousand złoty.

Police officers from the anti-corruption department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Radom recently conducted a case concerning the acceptance of bribes by an employee of the Municipal Office in Zwoleń. The basis for initiating the case was information from which it appeared that the official was accepting bribes from sports activities animators operating within the framework of the program of the Eagles of Sport Foundation co-financed from the state budget, in exchange for approving monthly reports on sports activities at local government sports facilities.

“As a result of the operational activities undertaken, it was established that the official was demanding bribes from the animators in the amount of half of the amount paid to them by the foundation in exchange for organizing sports activities. The activities conducted in the case led to the confirmation of the operational knowledge held, and also allowed to establish the full mechanism of accepting bribes,” the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Radom reported.

The police reported that as a result of the case, “the official was detained while accepting a bribe in the amount of PLN 1,000”. The 58-year-old was placed in police custody and then taken to the District Prosecutor's Office in Radom, where he was charged with accepting financial benefits in connection with performing a public function. He faces up to 10 years in prison. The man was placed under police supervision, posted financial surety, and banned from leaving the country.

The perpetrator of a corruption offence is not subject to punishment if the financial or personal benefit or their promise was accepted by a person performing a public function, and the perpetrator notified the body responsible for prosecuting crimes and disclosed all the essential circumstances of the offence before that body learned about it. A report concerning corruption can be submitted in writing or in person at any Police station or by phone.
