Professor Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska is not a candidate for the rector of the Medical University of Warsaw – the university's Senate has decided. Therefore, in the absence of candidates for rector, the election procedure should start from the beginning – decided the Senate.

As we read in the announcement on the WUM website, during the Senate meeting held on Monday, the resolution of March 25 this year was reconsidered. regarding the appointment of prof. Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska as a candidate for the position of rector for the 2024-2028 term. The Senate “did not adopt the above-mentioned resolution again,” it was reported.

“This means that Professor Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska was not allowed to take part in the elections as a candidate, and therefore – due to the lack of candidates for rector – the electoral procedure should start from the beginning,” the announcement noted.

“We would like to remind you that Professor Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska was punished with a disciplinary penalty of a warning for a disciplinary offense consisting in violating the dignity of the profession of an academic teacher (…) The basis for the disciplinary penalty of warning were the findings of the Rector's Anti-Mobbing Committee stating that the Professor had committed behavior that constituted mobbing. “- we read on the university's website.

Former rectors “concerned”

In recent days, former rectors of the Medical University of Warsaw have expressed concern about the events related to the election of the university's rector. “As former Rectors of the Medical University of Warsaw (formerly the Medical University), we are following with regret and concern the recent events related to the elections of the University authorities for the next term. These actions resulted in the exclusion of the academic character of the University and the university ethos was forgotten” – wrote professors Tadeusz Tołłoczko, Andrzej Górski, Leszek Pączek, Marek Krawczyk and Mirosław Wielgoś.

“This is not the University we have managed over the years of our work, this is not the University with a 215-year-old tradition that we have tried to reach university heights. These words are addressed to everyone involved in recent activities,” they emphasized. They also concluded that the extraordinary meeting of the WUM Senate on May 13 is “the last moment when everyone involved in the elections should return, above all, to thinking about the good of the University, because that is the only thing that befits its representatives.”

There were two candidates

Two candidates applied for the position of rector of the Medical University of Warsaw: the current rector, prof. Zbigniew Gaciong and vice-rector for personnel and organizational affairs, prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska. However, the vote for the rector scheduled for April 23 did not take place.

All because on April 19, the rector of the Medical University of Warsaw announced that he had imposed on prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska was given a disciplinary penalty in connection with “violating the dignity of the profession of an academic teacher”. He also informed that his opponent lost the right to run for the position of rector of the Medical University of Warsaw. He also resigned from running.
