SEOUL, South Korea — A U.S. Air Power pilot safely ejected on Monday earlier than his F-16 fighter jet crashed into the ocean off South Korea’s southwestern coast, U.S. and South Korean army officers mentioned.

The unidentified pilot was recovered by South Korean maritime forces and was “awake and in secure situation,” the U.S. eighth Fighter Wing mentioned in an announcement. It mentioned the pilot was being returned to Kunsan Air Base close to the southwestern port metropolis of Gunsan, the place he can be evaluated additional.

The pilot took off from the air base, used collectively by the U.S. and South Korean air forces, on a routine coaching flight and was pressured to eject from the plane after experiencing an unspecified in-flight emergency.
