The recording comes from a home camera monitoring the interior of the living room of a home in Oklahoma. The video shows a cat and two dogs located in the room.

At some point one of the dogs starts to bite the powerbank. At some point the device explodes and the mattress the dog was lying on catches fire.

According to Andy Little, public information officer for the Tulsa Fire Department, this is lithium-ion battery, i.e. the so-called power bank.

As a result of the fire the house was seriously damagedbut two dogs and a cat escaped the house uninjured.

– However, the consequences could have been much worse if the animals had not had the opportunity to escape or if the family had been asleep at the time – says Andy Little in the recording shared on social media.

– Many people keep lithium-ion batteries in their homes for convenience, not realizing the potential dangersthat they create, he added.

Dog caused fire. Firefighters appeal

The Tulsa Fire Department posted a video of the incident online as a warning to users of such devices.

“Services across the country are reporting an increase in the number of fires related to power banks and we want the public to learn about the use, safe storage and proper disposal of these potentially dangerous devices,” the release reads.

– When using lithium-ion batteries, it is essential to follow the manufacturer's guidelinesuse only approved chargers and keep them in a safe place out of reach of children and animals – adds Andy Little in the recording.
