Police officers under the supervision of the prosecutor are investigating the death of a wolf near the village of Olchowiec (Podkarpackie Voivodeship). The animal was probably killed during a hunt. A man was arrested in the case.
As the press officer of the Krosno police, Assistant Commissioner Paweł Buczyński, told PAP on Monday, the police were informed about the predator’s murder on Sunday.
– Preliminary findings show that the wolf was probably killed during a hunt. It took place near the village of Olchowiec in the Dukla commune. One person was detained in this case, he said.
He was carrying a dead animal and was arrested
As he added in an interview with tvn24.pl, the man was detained when “he was transporting a dead animal in an agricultural vehicle.” He has not yet been questioned and has not been charged.
The policeman emphasized that the investigation is ongoing as to who shot the animal and why. – We need to determine whether the animal was killed during a hunt. If so, was the hunt reported? All these issues must be clarified – noted the deputy commissioner. Buczynski.
The dead wolf was secured for examination.
The investigation into this case is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Krosno.
Wolf after protection
In Poland, wolves are protected. According to the regulations, it is prohibited to kill, mutilate, catch, frighten, disturb, keep, destroy dens and remove puppies from them, as well as store and sell skins and other parts of dead individuals without appropriate permission.

Killing or poaching a wolf is punishable by up to five years in prison.
As Edward Marszałek, spokesman for the Regional Directorate of State Forests, told PAP, wolves in Podkarpacie are commonly seen and seen during the day. He emphasized that they do not pose any threat to humans.
