A tragedy occurred on an unguarded beach in Olsztyn. A 36-year-old man drowned there while trying to save his 7-year-old son. The child was unharmed, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, the police reported. The boy's two siblings remained on the shore.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday on an unguarded beach on Lake Ukiel, between the city beach and the beach behind the Omega hotel – said junior cadet Jacek Wilczewski from the press team of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Olsztyn.

A 36-year-old man was there with three children. When the 7-year-old son was in the water and started calling for help, the father rushed to help. Witnesses also rushed to help. They pulled out the child and the man.

The boy was unharmed. The child was conscious and was taken into the care of paramedics.

Resuscitation of the 36-year-old was carried out on the shore. Despite an hour-long operation, he could not be saved. The police reported that in addition to the seven-year-old, two of his siblings, aged 6 and 10, were on the beach. Later, junior asp. Jacek Wilczewski said in a telephone conversation on TVN24 that the other two children were aged 6 and 8.

The children’s grandmother was notified of what had happened and went to the scene.

The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated by the police under the supervision of the prosecutor.
