After a long and serious illness, the Vice-Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Miron Sycz, died. For two terms – VI and VII – he sat in the Sejm and was an active activist of the Association of Ukrainians in Poland.

The death of Miron Sycz was announced by the Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Marcin Kuchciński.

In the upcoming local government elections, Miron Sycz was to run for the voivodeship assembly from the district covering Elbląg and the north-western part of the region. His district's polling stations will include information about the candidate's death.

Miron Sycz worked as a deputy marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship until his last days.

He acted for Ukrainians in Poland

For many years, he actively worked for the Polish Ukrainian community – he headed a high school with the Ukrainian language of instruction in Górowo Iławeckie, then on its basis he founded the School Complex with the Ukrainian Language of Instruction in Górowo Iławeckie, where he served as the director in the years 1990-2007.

He was the first MP in the Polish parliament to take the oath wearing a soroczka, i.e. a shirt embroidered with cross-stitch. Sycz worked in the Sejm of the 6th and 7th terms

“Miron Sycz was born on January 3, 1960 in the Bartoszyce district (Ostre Bardo). He was associated with Górów Iławecki all his life. It was there, as a teacher and head of the boarding school, at the Secondary School, that he began his professional career. In the early 1990s, he was the initiator of the establishment of an independent school – the School Complex with the Ukrainian Language of Instruction” – it was written on the local government website Wrota Warmii i Mazur.

“He has been associated with the local government of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship for years. In the years 1999-2007, he was a councilor of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship assembly, serving at that time as the chairman of the assembly (he initiated the establishment of the National and Ethnic Minorities Committee in the assembly, which is the only one of its kind to date). commission in Poland). In turn, in July 2015, he was appointed to the position of Vice-Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, a position he has held until now (he was elected on December 4, 2018, and then on November 7, 2023),” it was recalled.

According to the information provided by the press spokesman of the Warmian-Masurian Civic Platform, MP Maciej Wróbel, the funeral of Miron Sycz will take place on Tuesday in Olsztyn. The deceased will be buried in the avenue of merit at the cemetery in Dywity.
