At the level crossing in Ołtarzew, where a driver died in early July, there is no longer a 20 km/h speed limit for trains. A solution has been implemented to smooth traffic on the road leading over the tracks.

On July 1, on Ceramiczna Street in Ożarów Mazowiecki, at a marked railway crossing, There was a tragic accident. A truck collided with a Koleje Mazowieckie trainthe driver died. An investigation was launched, and the crossing was also examined by specialists from the State Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents. It was considered dangerous, so the speed was limited to 20 km/h.

The railway workers wanted to close the crossing, but then postponed the decision. The mayor of Ożarów Mazowiecki, Paweł Kanclerz, stated that it was an act of arbitrariness. He recalled that the experts from the commission did not recommend PKP PLK to close the crossing. However, they imposed other obligations on the company, requiring urgent implementation.

The speed limit has been removed

Ultimately, the crossing will remain open. PKP PLK announced in a statement that from midnight on August 14-15, trains will be able to travel there faster. “Until now, after the accident on July 1, in which a driver of Koleje Mazowieckie was killed, the speed on this section was limited to 20 km/h in order to increase the level of safety. The Mazovian Voivodeship Road Authority, at the request of the State Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents, installed special separators on the roadway next to the crossing. They are to prevent turning into side streets, which improves the fluidity of traffic and reduces traffic jams,” PKP PLK reported.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation and making sure that everything runs smoothly. The Railway Protection Guard remains on site,” the railway workers added.

The announcement did not specify the speed at which trains will be able to accelerate in this place. As “Gazeta Stołeczna” unofficially determined, after the changes, the limit there is 100 km/h.
