OLX – scammers impersonate a sales platform. Fake emails

Fraudsters pretend to be OLX. Criminals send SMS messages about transactions with links leading to a fraudulent payment gateway, warns the Scientific and Academic Computer Network (NASK).

The CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) of the Scientific and Academic Computer Network announced on Wednesday that it was observing that scammers impersonating the OLX portal began to use SMS messages.

Scammers are impersonating OLX

Previously, criminals used mainly WhatsApp and e-mail messages to contact potential victims, while recently fake text messages sent to the telephone number provided in the advertisement have also been observed, NASK reported.

She added that the scheme of fraud remains the same. “Sellers on the OLX portal receive messages from alleged buyers about the transaction. However, the links in the messages lead to a crafted payment gateway that steals the victim’s electronic banking login details” – informed NASK.

Offensive of scammers impersonating well-known institutions

Recently, mBank warned against thieveswhen criminals used his image by sending e-mails with information about the confirmation of the alleged SWIFT payment.

Earlier, the KNF CSIRT warned that scammers use the image of Bank BNP Paribas.
