On Friday at 12 noon, police sirens will sound across the country. This is a tribute to Asp. pcs. Mateusz Biernacki, a 34-year-old policeman fatally shot in Warsaw's Praga district. The Border Guard and Fire Brigade also joined the action.

“Last weekend, 34-year-old Asst. Mateusz Biernacki, a police officer of the Warsaw VI District Police Headquarters, died in the line of duty. He left behind a grief-stricken family and loved ones,” the police wrote on the X website.

She informed that the funeral ceremonies would take place on November 29 at 2 p.m. in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Saint Michael the Archangel in Biała Podlaska.

“On the day of the funeral, at 12 sharp, let police sounds and flashes be heard throughout the country as a gesture of tribute to Mateusz,” it was written. The police appealed to respect the peace of the family and relatives of the deceased policeman.

Border Guard officers and firefighters from the State Fire Service and the Volunteer Fire Service joined the action.

A policeman was fatally shot by another officer on Saturday in Praga at ul. Inżynierska. Two police patrols intervened in the case of an aggressive man. One of the policemen used his service weapon, as a result of which the second officer was injured and later died in hospital.

The prosecutor's office accused the shooting officer of exceeding his powers and unjustified use of his service weapon, as well as of causing a disease that was truly life-threatening and, as a result, causing the death of another person. She also applied for pre-trial detention, but the court did not agree to this request on Tuesday. The policeman was placed under police supervision.

“The man must report to the police station five times a week and is prohibited from approaching witnesses or the place where the incident occurred,” said the prosecutor in charge of the case on Tuesday after leaving the courtroom.

The court also imposed bail in the amount of PLN 50,000. PLN and suspended the officer from official duties.
