– In such inversion situations, as we had tonight, i.e. as we have a cloudless sky, we have very low humidity relative to the air, the air is dry, gravitational rafting of these colder, heavier air masses and it can just settle, accumulate at the bottom – explains Dr. Bartosz Czernecki.

In other parts of the mountains and Podhale it was not so cold. At night, thermometers showed values ​​of the order minus a dozen or so degrees. – There were minus 15 degrees in Zakopane, and in the Tatra Mountains around minus 18-19 – says Paweł Parzuchowski, head of the IMGW station in Zakopane and at Kasprowy Wierch.

During the day the frost in the mountains was still held. At noon at the Kasprowy Wierch peak was minus 17 degrees Celsius. – It's very cold, but it's very pleasant. One of the coldest nights of this winter is behind us. – The lowest temperature that the stations of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management recorded was minus 21.5 degrees in Jakuszyce. The second such a very cold station was Pomerania and Szemud station in general and there were minus 20 – says Ewa Łapińska Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – the National Research Institute.

In the morning the lowest air temperature was recorded in Kozienice – minus 17.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature was even lower. In Włodawa it was minus 22 degrees Celsius.

For the next night, for a significant part of the country, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued warnings. – From the Lubuskie Voivodship to Lower Silesia, the Łódź Voivodeship, Świętokrzyskie to the Lublin region – here we have a warning about strong frosts and we expect this very low temperature, below minus 15 degrees locally, and even minus 17 and as I said: Podgór regions are a minus 20 – informs Ewa Łapińska.

The services warn against entering frozen waters. In Liciszewy in the Toruń poviat, ice broke on Sunday afternoon under two anglers. – Fire brigades, a specialized water group from Włocławek, have been ordered to the place – says the young brig. Aleksandra Starowicz from the PSP command in Toruń.

Men took the Air Ambulance to the hospital, but unfortunately they could not be saved.

The services appeal to pay particular attention to now whether someone needs help in our surroundings. Low temperatures are also a deadly threat to animals. – There are animals on short chains, without access to water, in uninsulated booths.
