Lechia Gdańsk has a problem. She hasn't won a single one since September 14 match and she could approach the match against Legia in a low mood. In the matches against Widzew (1:1) and Stal Mielec (1:2), she conceded goals at the end, and during the international break, the club's authorities issued a statement. It evoked words of pity and mockery. It concerned support for coach Szymon Grabowski, who was accused of “lack of coaching”, whatever that means.
She waited even longer for the league victory Legion. The Warsaw team last recorded three points in the Ekstraklasa on September 1. They then won with Motor Lublin 5:2. Since then, the following teams stood in their way: Raków Częstochowa, Pogoń Szczecin, Górnik Zabrze and Jagiellonia Białystok. Balance? Two draws and two defeats. The only spoonful of honey in a tar barrel was victory Conference League with Real Betis (1-0).
Legia broke through in Gdańsk. These were crucial minutes
However, the guests came to Tricity with the intention of gaining three points and they wanted to turn their plans into reality from the very first moments of the match. In the third minute, Szymon Weirauch stopped his opponents twice. First, he won the competition against Wojciech Urbański, and then stopped Ryoya Morishita's follow-up. The Japanese was very active from the beginning of the match. A few moments later, he missed a cross from Paweł Wszołek. Even though he was unmarked in the penalty area, he shot his header over the crossbar into the home team's goal. In the meantime, Marc Gual was trying to find his way into the group of sixteen. The former Ekstraklasa top scorer recently scored in a match against Jagiellonia. This time he wasn't so lucky.
Lechia's attacks were incidental. The hosts rarely threatened the goal guarded by Gabriel Kobylak. Bogdan Wjunnyk wasted the best opportunity just before the break. The Ukrainian received a pass from Rifet Kapić, but lost the clash with the Legia goalkeeper.
The guests also started the second half, controlling the game. Goncalo Feio quickly made two changes. Already during the break, he replaced Maxi Oyedele and sent Rafał Augustyniak into the fight in his place. A few minutes later, Wojciech Urbański was replaced by Luquinhas.
In the 57th minute, Legia finally achieved their goal. Steve Kapuadi played the ball to Ryoya Morishita, who moved with it in the middle of the pitch and passed it to Ruben Vinagre. The Portuguese sent the ball to Marc Guala. The Spaniard mastered it with some problems, but eventually managed to head it into the penalty area to the running Morishita, who stood face to face with Weirauch and shot between his legs.
The people of Warsaw did not intend to stop there. Just five minutes later, Kacper Chodyna – after a pass from Rafał Augustyniak – took the ball inside and with a shot with his left foot, right at the post, increased the lead.
In the meantime, Szymon Grabowski sent Camilo Mena onto the field, but the hit Colombian was unable to change the game. Legia continued to lead the game and Legia could have scored more goals. The second goal could have been scored by Chodyna, who was unable to finish the combined action of Guala and Vinagra.
Ultimately, the result did not change. The guests collected the desired set of points and were level on points with Pogoń Szczecin at least until Sunday. For the hosts, another defeat – the seventh this season – means remaining in the relegation zone.
In the next league match, Lechia will go to Gliwice. The match against Piast, scheduled for October 25 at 6:00 p.m., will begin the 13th series of games. Legia will face on October 27 at 8:15 p.m. at their own stadium GKS Katowice. Let us remind you that three days earlier, Goncalo Feio's players will play in a Conference League match. This time their rival will be Baćka Topola.
