It depends on you whether we will all exist, whether Ukraine will exist, said President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing the soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces. A ceremony was held in the center of Kiev on the anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The ceremony was organized on Sofia Square, where one of the most important and oldest temples in Kiev is located – the Orthodox Cathedral of the Wisdom of God. President Zelensky thanked the armed forces and the officers of the law enforcement agencies. All of them, he said, Ukraine owes steadfastness.

Those who consciously stood on the military path, those who chose this path in 2014 and on February 24, those who cannot live without help, those who cannot help but help our country, those who firmly defend the position of Ukraine and our Victory Day, it depends on you whether we will all exist, whether Ukraine will exist – said the President of Ukraine.

One year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on the morning of February 24, 2022 with the intention of seizing Kiev and overthrowing the authorities of the neighboring country. Facing the resistance of the Ukrainians and its own mistakes in the campaign, it failed, but it occupied areas of southern and eastern Ukraine. In the second half of 2022, the Ukrainian army launched a counter-offensive, regaining a large part of the occupied territories. To date, Russia occupies about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory.
