A resident of Krakow thought that a famous singer was offering her a VIP seat at his concert. Then she bought a “meeting package”. She realized that she had been deceived when subsequent meetings with the “artist” were canceled.
The 31-year-old visited the 6th Police Station in Krakow at the end of September. She said she met a man on a social networking site claiming to be a famous artist. The police did not say who exactly the fraudster was impersonating.
“The man gained her trust, which resulted in conversations about the private life and career of the alleged singer. The fraudster offered the woman to buy a gift card, thanks to which she could come to his concert and receive a VIP seat,” we read in a statement from the Małopolska police.
They only corresponded via instant messenger
The woman bought a gift card and then received information that the caller would meet her. Provided, however, that he also purchases a “meeting package”. Its price depended on the time the new friend would spend with the 31-year-old.
The Krakow woman made a total of a dozen or so bank transfers to the account indicated by the “singer”, thus losing nearly PLN 70,000.
“However, the meetings were canceled for various reasons, then the woman realized that she had been deceived and reported the matter to the police. The fraudster never contacted her by phone, they only corresponded via messenger,” the police say.
An investigation is underway into the fraud that victimized a 31-year-old woman from Krakow, and the police appeal for caution when contacting people online.
