A 20-year-old died in a Warsaw hospital after setting himself on fire in mid-July in Opoczno (Łódź Province). As we reported on tvn24.pl, the police arrested a 13-, 14- and 19-year-old in connection with this case. The older of them was charged with attempted murder. According to the prosecutor's office, the charge will be changed in the near future.
Information about the fire On July 12, a 20-year-old man died in Opocznoconfirmed the spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Piotrków Trybunalski in an interview with tvn24.pl.
– On July 25, the injured party died in one of Warsaw hospitals. Due to his death, the prosecutor's office ordered an autopsy, which was carried out. The 19-year-old, previously suspected of attempted murder with particular cruelty, is now facing murder charges.
Three people were detained
The case was investigated by police officers from the District Police Headquarters in Opoczno. Investigators considered several hypotheses. Among them, that it was an unfortunate accident. – There was surveillance nearby, but it did not cover the scene of the incident. We identified witnesses – even those writing comments on the internet. We also secured recordings, including those from store cameras. On Saturday, there was a breakthrough, officers reached two minors aged 13 and 14 – informed Deputy Commissioner Barbara Stępień from the District Police Headquarters in Opoczno in mid-July.

A day later, the police arrested another person – a 19-year-old. – The 19-year-old was charged with attempted murder of the 20-year-old by setting him on fire with a flammable substance, which we will now examine. He faces a sentence of up to life imprisonment. As for the participation of minors in the incident, the District Court in Opoczno, the juvenile department, will decide on their fate after questioning – the policewoman reported. – These people met by chance, they had known each other by sight before. They drank alcohol together, an argument broke out and the 19-year-old got angry at the behavior of the injured party – first he was beaten, then he was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire – informed Deputy Commissioner Barbara Stępień from the District Police Headquarters in Opoczno.
The 19-year-old was temporarily arrested. He faces a life sentence, while the 13- and 14-year-olds were sent to the Youth Educational Center by decision of the Family and Juvenile Court in Opoczno.
