Former oppositionists from the times of the Polish People's Republic wrote in an appeal that “the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance assumes that the institution is apolitical and prohibits the president from belonging to a party or conducting public activities incompatible with the dignity of the office. The IPN is to serve the memory and history common to all citizens of the Republic of Poland, regardless of their views.” .
