Officers responded to the house round 4:40 p.m. after neighbors reported a person making an attempt to open its doorways and home windows whereas carrying a sword and a knife, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.
The suspect, later recognized as 20-year-old Likelihood T. Haylett, was inside the house when officers arrived and arrange a fringe, police stated. When Haylett noticed the officers outdoors, police stated he “he turned combative, charging out the again towards officers on the perimeter whereas carrying a sword.”
Whereas an officer fired a less-lethal foam-tip projectile on the suspect to maintain him at a distance, police stated he continued to threaten officers with the sword. Police stated he additionally threw an ax and knives at officers.
Officers deployed a second foam spherical and used de-escalation techniques to persuade the suspect to drop the weapons and give up, in accordance with the PPB.
Haylett, who was taken to a hospital for analysis, was present in possession of 15 weapons, together with a sword, ax, a number of knives and a slingshot, police stated.
No residents had been house on the time of the incident and no accidents had been reported.
Haylett was launched from the hospital and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Middle on a number of fees, together with first-degree housebreaking, first-degree prison trespassing, first-degree prison mischief, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, and illegal use of a weapon.
