Orlen took over nearly 100 Lotos stations. These include facilities in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin, Katowice, Kraków and Poznań. We have a list of stations taken over by the company from Płock. The remaining 417 Lotos stations went to the Hungarian MOL group.

The PKN Orlen network has been expanded by approximately 100 Lotos service stations, both its own and franchise stations. The list includes six facilities in the Tri-City – three each in Gdańsk and Gdynia. Orlen also gained two stations, e.g. in Warsaw, Szczecin, Katowice and Bytom.

This means that the network of the Płock concern now exceeds 1,900. At the end of September 2022, it was 1,825 petrol stations.

As announced, the rebranding of the Lotos station was to be completed in January 2023. The first objects to change colors were in Rybnik, Konin and Turek.

MOL took over most Lotos stations

However, not all Lotos stations stayed with the Orlen Group. As part of the remedial measures related to the merger, most of Lotos’s service stations, ie 417, were taken over by Hungarian MOL. The agreement on this matter was signed at the end of November 2022.

“The package of stations selected as part of the implementation of remedial measures was the result of a multi-level analysis – both at the level of the entire network and at the local level – of individual micromarkets. The guidelines for such analysis come from the European Commission and are based on the European Commission’s methodology used in the concentration assessment” – TVN24 Biznes informed the press office of PKN Orlen.

Earlier, there was information that the Hungarian concern would pay USD 610 million for Lotos stations.

Representatives of the Płock concern, asked by us whether MOL had any influence on the choice of the location of the Lotos stations that it took over, explained that “the process of determining the station package for sale was part of the arrangements with the European Commission, and not with individual bidders interested in purchasing”.

The Hungarian company initially assumed that the first station in Poland under the MOL brand may be launched in January 2023.

Petrol stations in Poland

MOL will be in third place in terms of the number of service stations in Poland. In second place – behind PKN Orlen – is BP. According to the data of the Polish Organization of Petroleum Industry and Trade, at the end of the third quarter, there were 565 stations in Poland belonging to the concern.

Also in the lead are: Shell with 445 points, Moya – 391, and CircleK (formerly Statoil) – 388.

the European Commission On June 20 last year, it gave Orlen permission to take over Grupa Lotos. At the beginning of August, the merger was registered in the National Court Register.

As a result of the implementation of remedial measures related to the takeover of Grupa Lotos, PKN Orlen became the owner of 79 petrol stations at the beginning of December Hungary. Under the agreement with the MOL Group, the concern from Płock will ultimately take over 143 stations in Hungary and 39 stations in Slovakia.
