Orlen has focused on renewable sources

“The agreement we have signed will allow us to increase our portfolio in renewable energy sources by a total of over 300 MW. The new capacities constitute as much as 1/3 of what Orlen has built in renewable energy over the last few years,” commented Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the Management Board of Orlen. “However, it is not only the scale that is important to us, but also the economic calculation, which in the case of this transaction is beneficial for us and allows us to actually build the value of the concern.”

As reported by the company, the first of the farms covered by the agreement is located in Chotków, in the Lubuskie province, and was launched in January this year. It has an area of 45 hectares and is equipped with 61 thousand photovoltaic panels. The second farm was built on the “reclaimed area of a former opencast mine coal lignite in the Przykona commune, in the Wielkopolska province”. Importantly, Orlen already has photovoltaic and wind installations in its vicinity. The agreement also includes information about the takeover of the “Warta” onshore wind farm. It was built in May 2023 in the Łódź province, west of Sieradz.

This is not the end of Orlen's big investments

Polish The company also plans to achieve 9 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy sources by the end of 2030. Orlen's investments will not, however, concern only onshore farms.

“As part of the final preparations for offshore installation work, planned for the end of this year, key components of the Baltic Power investment are being manufactured. Among other things, power stations are being built in Pomerania, which will allow for receiving energy from the turbines and sending it to land,” it was reported in the press release. “The investment carried out by the Orlen Group together with the Canadian Northland Power will include a capacity of nearly 1.2 GW in the national energy system in 2026. Zero-emission energy will flow from it, which will be able to power over 1.5 million households.”
