Orlen’s profits are appalling, especially for the fourth quarter. We have 16 billion full-year profits, but growth in the last quarter of more than 30 percent. This is not Orlen’s profit, it is plundering all of us citizens – said Senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski in “Fakty po Faktach”. In the talks about Russia’s suspension of oil supplies from the Druzhba pipeline, the company’s agreement with Saudi Aramco was also discussed. – We sold 30 percent of Rafineria Gdańska for a value equal to Saudi Aramco’s profit from this refinery for one quarter. This is a grand act, looting in broad daylight – commented MP Katarzyna Lubnauer.

Orlen announced on Saturday that it does not receive crude oil from Russia. Supplies via the Druzhba pipeline to Poland have been suspended by the Russian side. Last year, the company stopped importing crude oil from Russia by sea. The company announced that since the beginning of February 2023, after the contract with Rosneft expired, supplies of Russian oil covered only about 10 percent of Orlen’s demand for this raw material.

The guests of the Saturday edition of “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 – MP Katarzyna Lubnauer and independent senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski spoke about Russian oil, which still flows to Poland.

In this context, the guests also discussed Orlen’s agreement with Saudi Aramco – a global fuel giant, which at the end of November 2022 became the owner of 1/3 of the Gdańsk Refinery. The journalists of “Black and white” TVN24 reached the draft agreement, which shows that after the merger of Orlen and Lotos, Poland may lose control over the Refinery.

“This is not Orlen’s profit, it’s plundering us all”

Kwiatkowski admitted that “some people were surprised that we were collecting this oil from the Druzhba oil pipeline at all.”

– We paid Russia, which – it’s no secret – spends the profits from the sale of raw materials on murdering civilians, on running war in Ukraine. So from our point of view, you can say that this information [o wstrzymaniu dostaw ropy z rurociągu Przyjaźń – przyp. red.] maybe it has these good consequences that no one will say that Poland, even indirectly, finances the aggression against Ukraine. What is more shocking are Orlen’s profits, especially for the fourth quarter. We have 16 billion full-year profits, but growth in the last quarter of more than 30 percent – he said.

As the senator summed up, “this is not Orlen’s profit, it is robbing all of us citizens who paid too much at the stations at that time.”

“Beyond decency is law”

Lubnauer commented that “this is a monopoly that loots Poles.” – If we look at what will happen in the future, there is no one who could stop Orlen. In addition, Orlen manipulates, because Orlen’s spokesman writes that only three percent of their sales result from sales at Orlen stations. He writes about retail, not about wholesale, she noted.

Asked what can be done about it, Lubnauer replied: – There is such a thing as the decency of the state. If it’s a state-owned company, it should reduce the margin.

Kwiatkowski added to this that “besides decency, there is also law.” – I do not want to talk about too far-reaching analyzes here, because I would like to remind you that we still do not have access to the original contract signed by Orlen with Saudi Aramco. But there is also something in the law, such as the invalidity of certain contracts and provisions by law, as well as failure to comply with certain procedures related to this transaction – he said, warning that he could not talk about details, although – as he assured – this matter is being investigated.

>> This is how Poland lost control of the refinery in Gdańsk

– We are talking about a dispute that will be resolved in international arbitration – he added. I wouldn’t put a dot here. I would put three exclamation marks and a declaration that we will analyze this agreement immediately after the elections [parlamentarnych – red.]. This is one of the first points, due to Poland’s energy security – he noted.

Lubanuer noted that the refinery was sold for “no money”. – Let me remind you that we sold thirty percent of Rafineria Gdańska for a value equal to Saudi Aramco’s profit from this refinery for one quarter. This is granda, looting in broad daylight – she emphasized.
