A lot has changed at the Oscars ceremony over the years. Over the last six decades, however, one thing has remained constant – the red carpet, on which the stars of the cinema have walked. Until this year, because this time the rule was abandoned. The carpet was a champagne color.

The 95th Academy Awards of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) was held Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Even behind him, it became loud about breaking with the tradition of the red carpet, on which the stars invited to the gala walk. This was the first time since 1961.

“We rubbed our eyes in amazement”

– This year, when the carpet roll was being unrolled, we all rubbed our eyes in amazement – Marcin Wrona, a reporter from Fakty TVN, reported on Thursday.

Creative consultants Lisa Love, a longtime Vogue collaborator, and Raul Avila, director of the Met Gala in New York, are responsible for the decision to change the color.

As Love admitted, there was no debate regarding the color change. She and Avila were free to break with Oscar tradition. They also tried other colors than champagne, but they seemed too dark in the covered tent. “We chose this beautiful color that evokes a sunset,” she said.

“I think the decision to switch from the red carpet to the champagne carpet shows how confident we are that there will be no blood spilled at the event,” said host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly.

The history of the red carpet dates back to the aforementioned 1961 and the 33rd award ceremony Oscars at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. It was the first gala to be televised by ABC and was hosted by Bob Hope. The public first saw the red carpet in full glory in 1966, when the first broadcast was carried out in color.
