Born in Ipoh, Malaysia, the actress’ family and friends followed the ceremony, as she mentioned, in the Malaysian capital. Two ministers were also on site, the Associated Press reported.

Moments before the verdict was announced, the cameras captured the emotions of the mother, 84-year-old Janet Jeoh, who was embraced by loved ones and who – tense – did not take her eyes off the screen. At the moment of the verdict, everyone around her jumped out of their seats, shouting and covering their faces with their hands. Amongst the sea of excited people was Janet, who – obviously excited and happy – got up a few moments later. The woman, in tears of happiness, after exchanging hugs, raised her fist in a gesture of triumph.
