The Oscars – the most famous film awards – are traditionally presented at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. For the fourth time, the Hollywood cinema festival will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The most nominations this year – 13 – went to the psychological biographical thriller “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan. Right behind it was the film “Poor Creatures” by Yorgos Lanthimos with 11 nominations. The gala will start at 1 a.m. Polish time.

The Oscars – or rather the Academy Awards – annual film awards granted by members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), are the most popular film awards in the world. Approximately 10.5 thousand members of the Film Academy decide who receives the statuettes.

Since March 2002, the Oscar ceremony has been held at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The famous hall can accommodate nearly 3,400 people.

This year Oscar gala is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, March 10, Los Angeles time. The ceremony, which is also a television broadcast, will start at 1 a.m. Warsaw time. According to official press information, the gala should last three and a half hours.

Oscars 2024. Who received the most nominations?

Actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid announced their nominations for the 96th Academy Awards on Tuesday, January 23. As previously expected, the list of nominees included titles that had been considered favorites since their cinema premiere.

This year has the most nominations (13) received a biographical drama “Oppenheimer” directed by Christopher Nolan. The epic show about the fate of the creator of the atomic bomb – J. Robert Oppenheimer – was nominated, among others, in the best film category and is the main favorite for the statuette in this most important category.


11 nominations won the movie “Poor Creatures” Yorgos Lanthimos starring Emma Stone. The adaptation of the famous novel by one of the most important Scottish writers of the 20th century – Alasdair Gray – was previously appreciated, among others, with the Golden Lion Main Competition of the Venice International Film Festival. “Time of the Blood Moon” directed by Martin Scorsese received ten nominations.

For the first time in the history of the awards, the best film category included three films directed by women in one year (“Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet, “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig and “A Previous Life” by Celine Song).

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (produced by Warner Bros. Discovery, the owner of tvn24.pl) is only the ninth film in history to earn over a billion dollars and to be among the nominees in the best film category. “Barbie” became the box office hit of 2023 – closing the year with a result exceeding $1.45 billion. Thus, “Barbie” became the highest-grossing film directed by a woman and the first film directed by a woman to cross the billion-dollar mark in the world.
