In Lubuska The village of Osiecznica is still being cleaned up after the great September floodas a result of which approximately 300 residential and farm buildings were damaged. Despite a petition from one of the residents, local authorities did not implement such an investment around 2010.
Osiedle after the flood. Petition for the construction of flood embankments
Under the influence of the destructive element, the topic of building embankments returned. The village head and municipal councilor, PaweÅ‚ Szymczak, is collecting signatures for a petition to the government on this matter, which – as he emphasizes – the residents present at the village meeting supported it unanimously. According to his calculations, Osiecznica has been flooded six times over the last 124 years.
Szymczak emphasized in an interview with TVN24 that, according to his estimates, the embankments should be at least one kilometer long.
– Residents are condemned to the water that will inevitably flow here. Even if we put a million bags of sand, it will not protect Osiecznica from the water that is seeping into our buildings. Residents can only watch how the water flows into their houses, said the village head.
PaweÅ‚ Szymczak emphasized that the construction of embankments is a very expensive undertaking that exceeds the capabilities of the local government. – It's a matter of millions. However, if we initially estimated the losses incurred by the government, as well as by all formations and institutions that made every effort to secure the facilities, as well as the clean-up after the flood, plus compensation, then perhaps at least half of the money would be collected from these funds. for the embankment – said the TVN24 interlocutor.
