He did not stop for traffic control, and while escaping, he drove against the traffic and tried to collide with a police car. He was drunk and will be charged with, among other things, active assault on police officers.
On Sunday, January 5, around 6:30 p.m. at ul. Handlowa in Ostróda, traffic police tried to stop the driver of a Volkswagen. He started to run away and at considerable speed headed towards S7 towards Warsaw, and then towards the town of Szyldak.
“The weather conditions and concern for the safety of other road users in this place forced the police officers to temporarily abandon the pursuit. However, they already knew who was driving the car. This information was passed on to other patrols,” the Ostróda police said in a statement.
The area where he could have hidden was checked. Soon, the Ostróda road patrol noticed the indicated vehicle near the town of Górka. Upon seeing the police car, the driver accelerated rapidly again and started to run away towards Ostróda.
He was driving against the flow
The situation became extremely dangerous after he drove the wrong way onto the Ostróda bypass.
“He disregarded all applicable regulations, drove in the opposite lane at a very high speed. Several times he tried to collide with a police car by braking suddenly. Driving towards the town of Tyrowo in the Ostróda commune, the patrol performed a maneuver that prevented the thoughtless driver from continuing his journey. He was detained, he was completely drunk.” – added.
With blood alcohol levels, but without a driving license
The test showed over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his body. The 42-year-old resident of Ostróda does not have a driving license. He was stopped in the past for exceeding the speed limit in a built-up area by more than 50 kilometers per hour.
The man was arrested. He was charged with failure to stop for a road check and driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as active assault on officers and exposing a person to direct danger of loss of life or serious bodily injury.
“The police submitted a request to the prosecutor's office for the court to apply provisional arrest to the 42-year-old,” it was noted.
