Over 4,000 pieces of leeks were to disappear from the field of one of the farmers from the Ostrów district. The man himself arrested one of the perpetrators and handed him over to the police. She detained his accomplice, who was trying to hide from the law enforcement officers in the attic.

A few days ago, at night, a resident of one of the towns of the Ostrów district called the police, reporting that he had captured a man who was stealing vegetables from his field.

“Officers arrived at the scene and found the complainant along with the man he had arrested. As the officers established, the 36-year-old man, together with an allegedly unknown man, came to the field by car with the intention of stealing leeks. The men took the dug vegetables from the field and packed them into the car they came in – explains podkom. Małgorzata Michaś from the District Police Headquarters in Ostrów Wielkopolski.

Owner: 4,000 pores are gone

Officers determined that this was not the 36-year-old’s first theft. The policemen went to the detainee’s place of residence and found several dozen pieces of arranged vegetables in the basement. They quickly found out who his companion was.

– It turned out to be a 35-year-old man who hid from the policemen in his partner’s attic – explains Michaś.

The perpetrators were arrested and charged with theft. The owner estimates that over 4,000 pieces of leeks worth about PLN 8,000 were stolen from the field. The police are now trying to determine the exact scale of the thefts committed by the men. They are now facing up to five years in prison.
