An unusual “souvenir” after World War II was found by workers building a bicycle path in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. While working, the workers came across an artillery shell. The unexploded ordnance has been secured.
On Friday morning, police officers received a report about a suspicious bullet found during work related to the construction of a bicycle path on Siennieńska Street in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. As it turned out, this is another remnant of World War II that has recently been found in this area. In March in nearby Okalina during the construction of the Opatów bypass a 100-pound aerial bomb exploded, injuring one of the workers.
Police: The missile has been secured
This time, fortunately, the shell did not explode. – On the spot, the officers of the Ostrowiec headquarters carried out a mining and pyrotechnic reconnaissance, which showed that the unexploded ordnance found was an artillery shell, most likely from the times of World War II – said in a message Deputy Commissioner Ewelina Wrzesień, spokeswoman for the Ostrowiec police.
Uniforms secured the find site until sappers arrived.
The officers emphasize that unexploded ordnance and unexploded ordnance found all over the country are very dangerous. – They are often corroded. Due to the passage of time, an explosion can occur at any time. They are often called “rusty death”. The neutralization of such a threat is carried out by military sapper patrols, which take the unexploded ordnance to a safe place, stressed Wrzesień. At the same time, she appealed for caution and for calling the services if more missiles are found.
