The police have detained a 39-year-old woman suspected of insulting, slandering and threatening the mayor of Karczew and his family. She allegedly came to the office with paving stones in her hand. She gave an explanation. She was temporarily arrested.
“The 39-year-old insulted and slandered the mayor of Karczew on a social networking site in order to humiliate him in public opinion and thus make it harder for him to perform his duties. What's more, this woman also publicly and for a trivial reason threatened to deprive him of life or health,” the police in Otwock reported in a statement. The woman also allegedly threatened the mayor's family.
Within a few hours, the police determined the whereabouts of the 39-year-old. She was detained on a property in the Karczew commune. “She was very surprised by the police action,” added the police from Otwock.

“She gave extensive explanations”
The officers gathered evidence, based on which they presented the woman with six charges. “She gave extensive explanations, in which she confirmed her behavior towards the mayor. This included the fact that when she came to the office she was holding a paving stone in her hand, but she did not intend to harm anyone with it,” the police from Otwock reported.
The prosecutor supervising the police activities from the District Prosecutor's Office in Otwock, after reviewing the case files, submitted a motion to the District Court in Otwock to apply the most severe preventive measure against the 39-year-old, in the form of temporary arrest. The court agreed with the prosecutor's motion in its entirety and arrested the woman for a period of three months. She faces up to two years of imprisonment.
“There can be no room for hate, incitement…”
“Recently, my family and I had an unpleasant situation related to threats to our lives or health. At first, I wondered whether to address the issue or treat it as immaturity of this person and let it go. (…) I decided to take clear action in this matter and reported the incident to the police. On the same day, the woman was detained and then, by court decision, detained for 3 months. The woman faces up to two years in prison. I would like to thank the officers of the Police Department in Karczew, headed by Commander Deputy Inspector Agnieszka DomaÅ„ska, for their immediate and effective action. You know that I am open to discussion and criticism, but there can be no room for hate, incitement and slandering anyone. Together we must put a stop to this phenomenon, which, unfortunately, has become widespread with the popularization of social media. I say clearly and firmly #StopHejt towards anyone” – wrote MichaÅ‚ Rudzki, the mayor of Karczew on his Facebook profile.
Let's remember that none of us should agree to a wave of hate, aggression, or incitement to hatred. Emerging disputes should be substantive, not motivated by hate.
