For creating a dangerous situation at a pedestrian crossing in front of one of Otwock's primary schools and for other offenses, the 38-year-old driver received 47 penalty points. The mayor of Otwock, Jarosław Margielski, commented on the matter, drawing attention to the extensive monitoring system in the city.

As we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, the police from Otwock received a report from the management of one of the schools about a Skoda driver who ignored the instructions of the traffic controller (called a “stopper”), did not give way to pedestrians and entered the crossing. The situation was dangerous because it happened at a frequently used crossing next to one of the schools in Otwock. The incident was recorded by a city surveillance camera. The police determined that the driver of the Skoda was a 38-year-old resident of the Otwock district. She was punished with 47 penalty points for a series of offenses.

47 cameras in 20 places in the city

A recording of the same event recorded from the school building appeared on the social media profile of the mayor of Otwock, Jarosław Margielski.

“Road pirate is rather too delicate a term for such cases. Fortunately, the city ANPR system and efficient police action from the Otwock Police Headquarters will allow the driver to be excluded from traffic on Otwock and other public roads,” Margielski wrote.

The local government official reminded that Otwock is one of the first cities in Poland to operate the Intelligent Road Traffic Analysis System together with the police. “As part of the implementation of this system, 47 modern cameras were installed in twenty points throughout the city. These are the entrance roads to Otwock and the main intersections,” explained the city's mayor.

“The implementation of the first automatic monitoring license plate recognition system of its kind has enormous potential for expansion, which significantly improves the safety of Otwock residents, as we have now seen,” Margielski concluded.
