P4, the operator of the Play network, will take over UPC Polska. The company announced that on Wednesday it signed an agreement with Liberty Global to acquire 100 percent of shares in UPC Polska.
The acquisition of UPC Polska requires the consent of the competent antitrust authorities. “The closing of the transaction is planned for the first half of 2022” – indicated in the Wednesday report. The value of the transaction will amount to PLN 7 billion.
UPC Polska has so far been part of Liberty Global, an international operator of television and broadband Internet services, operating in over 30 countries in Europe, South America and the Caribbean. The British company announced at the end of July that it had received an offer to sell its business in Poland.
P4 will take over UPC Polska
UPC Polska is one of the largest internet service providers in Poland. The company’s services are used by over 1.5 million customers. There are over 3.5 million households within the reach of the company’s network. In 2020, the French Iliad took over Play Communications, the operator of the Play mobile network, and withdrew its shares from trading on the WSE.
The Wednesday report stated that, based on the financial data for the previous year, the total revenues of Play and UPC Polska amount to PLN 9 billion. After the closing of the transaction, Play and UPC are to provide telecommunications services to over 17 million subscribers.
