A 30-year-old man came to the hospital emergency department in Pabianice (Łódź Province) because he had a bad headache. He had problems with balance when he got out of the car. It turned out that the man had over 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system, and the car he arrived in was stolen.

The situation took place early Tuesday morning. At 4:50 a.m. the Pabianice police officer on duty received a call from the local hospital.

– The Emergency Department employee noticed the driver of the Toyota Yaris, who was walking unsteadily after getting out of the vehicle. It was obvious at first glance that the man had been drinking alcoholic beverages earlier – explains Junior Warrant Officer Marta Bączyk from the Pabianice police.

When the man managed to get to the emergency room, he explained that he was seeking help because he had a severe headache.

The cause of the pain was quickly determined by the police who arrived at the hospital. They performed a sobriety test on the 30-year-old, which showed that he had over 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. “It also turned out that the man did not have a driving license,” Bączyk reports.

He was quickly connected to another case.

While the police were intervening at the hospital, the officer on duty received a report of the theft of a Toyota Yaris in the Łask district. It turned out that the 30-year-old had driven to the hospital in the stolen Toyota.

– According to the police, the 30-year-old used the keys left in the vehicle and took the car that was parked in his neighbor's yard. The owner noticed the theft of the vehicle in the morning, when a familiar bicycle was lying in its place. She immediately decided to report it to the police – explains Bączyk.

The man will now appear in court. He faces up to five years in prison for stealing a vehicle, and up to three years in prison, a large fine and a court ban on driving motor vehicles for driving while intoxicated.
