In the last 24 hours, there were 34 thousand jobs in Russia. 303 cases of coronavirus infection – the most since the start of the pandemic. Regional authorities are introducing new restrictions, but a federal decision on this has still not been made.
The increase in morbidity is observed in almost all regions of Russia. In Moscow, 6,740 cases of infection have been detected, in St. Petersburg – 3,323, in the Moscow region – 2,759. In these regions, it is also the highest rate since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Interfax news agency reported on Sunday.
The Russian government staff reported that the country’s incidence rates were rising to unprecedented levels for the fourth consecutive day.

The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is approximately 200,000, according to data from the government staff. people. Twice higher figures are provided by the Federal State Statistics Service of Rosstat – over 400,000. Where does this difference come from? For a simple reason: the staff only reports on deaths, the main cause of which was the coronavirus. Rosstat also includes patients who also had comorbidities.
Appeal for vaccinations
Despite the sharp increase in infections, the federal authorities have still not made a decision to introduce national restrictions. When asked about this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with journalists that “the introduction of new restrictions is not planned as long as the infrastructure in hospitals is operational.”
Peskov recalled that in regions where the situation “is approaching critical and the health care system is no longer able to provide assistance to new patients,” local authorities decide on restrictions.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman called on his compatriots to vaccinate against the coronavirus.
Fighting the pandemic in the regions
Local authorities in Russia continue to tighten related restrictions, including compulsory vaccinations for certain professional and social groups. They also introduce special digital codes (after vaccinations) for visitors to public places.
Without a vaccination certificate, the residents of the Volgograd Oblast from October 18 will not be able to, inter alia, go to the gym or swimming pool. They will also not visit cinemas, museums and theaters. This also applies to concerts, “Komsomolskaya Pravda” reported.
Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, where the most infections were recorded, stated that “short-term restrictions” could be introduced due to the situation, but did not provide any details.
Official statistics on people vaccinated in Russia were released on Saturday – over 51 million people in the country of 144 million received the first dose. More than 47 million Russians were vaccinated with two doses.
