“The situation on the pepper market has gotten completely out of control. Many pepper producers are wondering why prices are always high until Polish peppers start to appear on the market. Suddenly, it turns out that the Dutch can also produce cheaply. So why don't they do it all year round?” – The Association of Polish Pepper Producers indicated on Facebook. It was emphasized that the prices of peppers dropped by 50 percent in a few days. “For many producers, this may mean not only the end of their adventure related to pepper cultivation, but also the end of their farm,” we read.

Pepper prices have gone crazy. The Association of Polish Pepper Producers has sent a letter to the government

The Association of Polish Pepper Producers estimates that “price turbulences are not likely to be temporary”. How much does pepper cost? On Monday, August 5, at the Warsaw wholesale market Bronisze, a kilogram of red or yellow peppers costs an average of around PLN 5, while a kilogram of green peppers costs PLN 4.25.

Polish On Friday, August 2, pepper producers sent a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Agriculture and Rural Development Commission. They emphasized that farmers are appealing for the launch of mechanisms to protect Polish farmers and consumers.

For many years, we have been dealing with a weakening position of the farmer-producer in the supply chain. The grand announcements of previous years have not changed this, because the legislator has not implemented any effective mechanisms that would ensure long-term stability. You, Mr. Prime Minister, can change this and end the endless impossibilism regarding our industry. With each passing year, we observe an increasingly negative impact of corporate trade and corporate agriculture, in particular on highly fragmented producers of vegetables and fruits.

Pepper producers have demands. “Farmers are condemned to Dutch or French operator”

The Association of Pepper Producers has listed specific demands. They are demanding, among others: a price for the purchase of peppers that covers the costs of production and ensures its profitability; a ban on selling agricultural products below the cost of their production and the establishment of solutions that make promotions dependent on the consent of farmers. They also want to introduce a uniform, Polish type of interchangeable packaging intended for the distribution of fruit and vegetables. “Currently Polish farmers are forced to use a Dutch or French operator of interchangeable packaging,” we read.
