Paris. A building fire on the Boulevard des Capucines

On Saturday, a fire broke out in a building on Boulevard des Capucines near Opera Square in the center of Paris. It is a busy part of the city, popular with tourists. The services recommended avoiding this area as much as possible. Nobody was hurt in the fire. Its causes are not known yet.

The fire appeared on the third floor of a seven-story building on the Boulevard des Capucines, a boulevard that runs diagonally towards the Paris Opera. Reuters news agency reported dense clouds of smoke hovering over Paris’s 9th arrondissement.


“There is an intervention by firefighters, avoid this area” – reported the local police on Twitter. Dozens of passersby were evacuated in connection with the incident. The area where the building is located has been fenced off with police tape for several hours. The surrounding shops were closed, and the traffic at the Opera metro station was stopped.

The flames were extinguished, but the firefighters remained on site anyway due to the risk of the fire re-emerging.

Noone hurt

Paris fire department spokesman Florian Lointier said there were no reports of fatalities or injuries. At the moment it is not known what caused the fire. – There are no casualties. When the firefighters arrived, they found no one, neither in the offices nor in the apartments, ‘said Lointier.

There have been videos on social media of the fire showing flames and black smoke emerging from six adjoining windows on the third floor of the building. Sirens can be heard in the background. The whole event is watched by passers-by.
