We want to hold this government accountable for everything that has been done to women, Aleksandra Gajewska, MP from the Civic Coalition, said in “Fakty po Faktach”. Magdalena Biejat from the parliamentary club of the Left pointed out on TVN24 that “the law that punishes with imprisonment for aiding in abortion is used to harass women.”

Ombudsman Marcin Wiącek on August 23, asked the Minister of Health, Katarzyna Sójka, about the plans and activities of the ministry to improve patients’ access to anesthesia during childbirth.

In 2022, only 14 percent of deliveries took place with an epidural, which is reimbursed by National health Fund – results from the Fund’s report, which was quoted by the ROP on its website. As it was added, in some provinces such anesthesia is practically unavailable, in others it can be used only in the largest cities.

The Commissioner for Human Rights pointed out that the lack of an actual possibility of administering anesthesia, when it is legally guaranteed, may indicate a violation of the patient’s rights to respect for dignity and intimacy, pain treatment and the right to health services.

Gajewska: We want to hold this government accountable for all that has been done to women

MPs Aleksandra Gajewska (Civic Coalition) and Magdalena Biejat (Coalition Parliamentary Club of the Left) referred to this issue in Monday’s edition of “Fakty po Faktach”.

This is what I regularly ask in interviews. How to review the data, access is guaranteed, but the anesthetics are not administered, so on paper PIS will say that access to these drugs is the same as free drugs for seniors and so on – said Gajewska.

– Paper will accept everything, only then there is this sad reality in which we operate, where we will not get emergency contraception at the pharmacy, where we will go to the doctor of conscience and we will not get a prescription for the morning-after pill or hormonal contraception – added the KO MP.

– And this is a reality in which we do not want to live and function. And for all that has been done to women, we want this government to be held accountable,” she said.

Biejat reminded that “when the protests broke out about the pseudo-judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal, which took away women’s already very limited right to abortion, the members of the Left were at all the protests.”

We were on the front line. The day after this verdict, I submitted an emergency bill that removes abortion from the Penal Code, because today, unfortunately, the police, and unfortunately some doctors and partners, use this law, which says about punishing with prison for aiding in an abortion, to to harass women, she said.

As she noted, “this is what the situation of Mrs. Joanna from Krakow was about.” – She was searched, interrogated in the emergency room for traces of aiding and abetting. And we need to delete it immediately, she added.

The MP stressed that the Left “together with women’s circles submitted a bill on legal abortion without compromise.” – We also demand the abolition of the conscience clause – she added.
