A 43-year-old woman who left her three-year-old son unattended at home will be held responsible for exposing her three-year-old son to a direct danger of loss of health or life. A drunk woman was detained in Zaborze (Małopolskie Voivodeship) after causing a collision. Her blood alcohol content was 2.6 per mille.

As the junior inspector Sebastian Gleń, spokesman for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Krakow, said on Tuesday (April 18), just after 9 am, the operator of the emergency number 112 was notified of a road collision that took place on Borowiec Street in Zaborze. A police patrol was dispatched to the spot.

– Officers determined that a 43-year-old woman, driving an Opel, left the road and hit the fence of one of the properties. The woman’s sobriety test showed 2.6 per mille of alcohol. When she heard that she was detained, she said that she had left her three-year-old son unattended at home – Gleń said.

The police, together with the arrested 43-year-old, went to her place of residence. – In one of the rooms they found a frightened, several-year-old boy. Checking subsequent rooms, the officers noticed that in the kitchen on a gas stove, a woman left boiling broth unattended, said the spokesman for the Lesser Poland police.

As he informed, the boy was handed over to the care of his family, while the woman was taken to the Oświęcim police headquarters.

Two proceedings were instituted against the 43-year-old woman: in connection with the suspicion of committing a crime of exposure to a direct danger of loss of health or life of a minor over whom she was obliged to care, and for driving a vehicle while intoxicated.

For the first offence, the woman is sentenced to five years in prison. For the second up to two years of imprisonment, a ban on driving motor vehicles for at least three years and a fine of up to PLN 60,000.

Materials regarding the revealed negligence in the exercise of care will also be submitted to the District Court in Oświęcim, Family and Juvenile Department. – A separate application will also be submitted to the Commune Committee for Solving Alcohol Problems in connection with the suspicion that the acts committed by the woman may prove her addiction to alcohol – informed the spokesman for the Małopolska police.
