On Tuesday (September 24), Patryk Jaki published a recording on social media in which he accuses Wody Polskie of negligence during preparations for the coming flood wave. He points out that the Topola, Kozielno, Otmuchów and Nysa reservoirs have a combined volume of 290 million cubic meters. – Knowing that the flood was coming, Wody Polskie only released water from them to 180 million cubic meters, which made the wave stronger and flooded many towns – he said. Polish Waters responds to Patryk Jaki's allegations. “Reservoirs effectively reduced the threat”
The editors of Next.gazeta.pl asked Wody Polskie for its position on the accusations of the PiS MEP. In its response, the Department of Communication and Water Education of the body maintains that the Nysa Kłodzka cascade had a sufficient reserve secured – it intercepted about 155 million cubic meters of water with an initial reserve of almost 180 million cubic meters. “Thanks to their work, the reservoirs effectively reduced the flood wave and limited the flood threat in the riverbed below the reservoir,” we read.
Polish Waters confirmed that until the heavy rainfall and water level rises, the Nysa Kłodzka cascade reservoirs were operating in accordance with the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Team for the Odra River and that the goal was indeed to prevent the bloom of golden algae. However, on September 10, it was recommended to maintain a state of readiness in terms of increasing the alimony of the Odra River flow and “analyze the possibility of flattening the flood wave using the water levels in Malczyce and Dolny Brzeg”. On September 14, due to the sudden rises in water levels, the operation of the Nysa Kłodzka reservoirs entered flood mode.
Polish Waters: The flood did not occur from the side of the Nysa Kłodzka reservoir
On Wednesday (September 25), Polish Waters released announcement about the causes of the flooding of the city of Nysa, in which it was noted that the flood did not occur from the Nysa Kłodzka and the river reservoir, but from the canal system located in the city – including the Bielawski Canal. The published position also emphasized that the Nysa Kłodzka in the city section can carry a flood flow of 1.4 thousand cubic meters per second. Meanwhile, the maximum outflow from the reservoir on the day of the city flooding was 1 thousand cubic meters per second. In addition, the Provincial Crisis Management Center in Opole received information about the outflow three hours in advance.
