The water in Pionki near Radom is not suitable for drinking. E. coli and enterococci were detected in the water supply. The mayor appointed a city crisis team.
A message about water contamination appeared on the city of Pionki's social media profile.
“In connection with the announcement of the State District Sanitary Inspector in Radom regarding the confirmed presence of coliform bacteria and enterococci, I would like to inform you that water from the public water supply in Januszno supplying the town of Pionki may only be used for sanitary purposes,” we read in the announcement.
The mayor of Pionki, Łukasz Miśkiewicz, has established a municipal crisis management team, which is responsible for keeping residents informed and taking actions to ensure safe access to water. “I appeal for vigilance and cooperation in implementing actions aimed at preventing the spread of bacteria,” wrote Mayor Miśkiewicz.
The announcement did not specify what could have caused the water contamination.
Coliform bacteria are dangerous to the body
Coliform bacteria constitute the natural bacterial flora of the large intestine, but if they are found in other places in the human body, they can cause serious health problems, including: poisoning, infection, peritonitis or, especially in young children, meningitis.
