The Babiogórski National Park announced that Perć Akademików, the yellow trail leading from Górny Płaj to Babia Góra, will be closed from Friday until further notice. The reason is difficult weather conditions.

Perć Akademików is the most difficult trail in the Beskids. It is one-way, approach-oriented. Its part includes, among other things, an eight-meter vertical wall called the Black Beak, which tourists must climb. Buckles and chains are installed there.

According to the Babiogórski National Park, “Akademicka Perć” will be closed on Friday until further notice.

Difficult conditions

“Conditions on the trail are very difficult – chains and clamps are icy and covered with snow – making safe hiking impossible,” it was written on social media on Thursday.

In 1894, the German mountain tourism organization Beskidenverein marked out several trails on Babia Góra, including the yellow trail from Zawoja Czatoża to Markowe Szczawin. After the PTT shelter in Markowe Szczawiny was opened in 1906, the trail was repainted into a single-stripe system, retaining the yellow color. In 1925, Władysław Midowicz repainted it with a two-lane system and extended it to the top of Babia Góra, calling the new section “Perć Akademików” (previously known as “Perć na Babia Górą” or “Perć Taternicka”). A year later, the markings were changed to the three-stripe system that is still used today.
