Parts of Peru were hit by heavy rain. The rain caused the rivers to burst their banks. Landslides caused by rainfall destroyed fields and blocked a road connecting several cities. Meteorologists warn that the rainfall will not subside for now.

Heavy rain hit the southern regions of Peru on Friday, the Reuters news agency reported. There is no information about any deaths or injuries, but there are reports of serious damage.

Flooded houses, rain is expected throughout the weekend

Local media reported that more than 50 houses were flooded in the town of Yura. In Inapari, 90 buildings were damaged after the Acre River flooded.

– The water level has risen and continues to rise. Many families need help in evacuating. We saw places where everything was lost, said Esteban Rivera, head of the regional health service.

Landslides caused by heavy rains destroyed fields, houses and roads – the one connecting the city of Moquegua with the cities of Puno and Cusco was impassable because of mounds of earth on it.

The national meteorological service SENAMHI (Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología del Perú) forecasts that rainfall will continue through the weekend.
