More than two tons of cocaine have been seized at Peru’s largest port, El Callao, on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Peruvian authorities said. According to the findings of the officers, the cocaine was supposed to reach Turkey by sea. The cocaine was valued at “at least $20 million,” the El Callao police chief said.
– This is the first incident we know of where the delivery is made Türkiye. Usually drugs are diverted to ports in BelgiumNetherlands, Spain and France, said El Callao police chief Colonel Luis Angel Bolanos.
At a press conference on Monday, police showed cocaine that had been attached to rubber sheets and looked like hundreds of ceramic tiles packed in wooden crates placed inside a shipping container.
Bolanos said the cocaine seized was valued at “at least $20 million.”
UN: Peru and Colombia are top cocaine producers
Peru seized a record number of more than 86 tons of drugs and illicit substances last year, of which 28 tons was cocaine hydrochloride, according to police data.
According to the United Nations Peru and Columbia are among the world’s leading producers of cocaine and the coca leaves from which it is made.
