As we read in the statement issued by the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, the head of state was injured while riding a motorcycle. “The injuries are not serious, but they will be demanding short observation in hospital – noted the office, committing to provide further information.

Petr Pavel is a 62-year-old retired general former Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces. He has been performing his current function since March 2023 as a result winning the second round of the presidential elections from January of the same year. The military man defeated it former Prime Minister Andrej Babisz.

Before Pavel decided to get involved in politics, he also held a position head of the NATO Military Committee, i.e. the second most important person – after the Secretary General – in the structures of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Was the first representative from the former Warsaw Pact countries at this level. He finished his work in the Alliance in 2018.

Petr Pavel loves motorcycling and extreme sports

After his military career ended, he retired and stayed advisor and lecturer. His potential run in the presidential elections was considered for several years, but he announced his plans only in an interview in 2021, and officially announced them in June 2022.

Petr Pavel is known for his passion for riding motorcycles or extreme sports. During last Easter, he offered to his compatriots unusual wishes “from the air”.

“I wish you all the best in the future Easter you spent it the way you like it best. Maybe with your head in the clouds” wrote Petr Pavel on social media. He added a recording of his flight in an aerobatic plane to the entry.
