Closed due to a roof defect, PGE Narodowy will be opened before the Poland-Albania match, according to the announcement of the Warsaw City Hall. The meeting as part of the European football championship qualifiers was at risk, because the firemen’s inspection found irregularities. Officials announced that on Monday they would issue a positive opinion on the organization of a mass event at the stadium.

Due to a crack in one of the roof structure elements, PGE Narodowy was closed in November 2022. The so-called bypass installed there relieved the defective part, but access to the facility was still forbidden. However, mass events will be held there again soon.

– We already have all the decisions along with the opinion of the Poviat Building Supervision Inspectorate. On Monday, we will issue a positive opinion on the mass event at the National Stadium, Monika Beuth, spokeswoman for the Warsaw City Hall, announced on Friday. It is about the match between Poland and Albania scheduled for March 27 as part of the qualifiers for the European football championship.

Previously, the District Inspector of Building Supervision asked the operator of the National Stadium to provide relevant expertise confirming that the stadium can be used safely, because all irregularities in the roof structure have been removed. PINB accepted these opinions.

– In line with our expectations, the opinion of the PINB is positive. We are very happy about it and we are focusing on preparations for the Poland-Albania match – said PGE Narodowy spokeswoman Małgorzata Bajer.

The inspection revealed irregularities

Previously, it was not certain whether the Poles would play a match with representatives of Albania at PGE Narodowy. Although in February the operator of the National Stadium – the PL.2012+ company – informed that the stadium was a safe place and the match could take place there, firefighters had doubts.

On March 10, PINB received a letter from the city commander of the State Fire Service in Warsaw, who informed that the inspection of the facility revealed irregularities in the roof structure. Therefore, they applied to the poviat building inspectorate to inspect and provide information whether the irregularities found allow for further, safe use of the facility.

The PINB finally said yes, so now the organization of the Poland-Albania match at the National Stadium is not in danger. A spokeswoman for the PGE Narodowy operator emphasized that experts who cooperate with the company monitor the technical condition of the facility on an ongoing basis.
