Crisis counselors at school

Philadelphia school district superintendent Tony Watlington announced that crisis counselors will come to the school on Thursday to help students affected by trauma.

“We are absolutely heartbroken and outraged that innocent children leaving school have become victims of gun violence,” Watlington said. Northeast High School will be conducting classes virtually through the end of the week.

11 students shot in two days

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker announced during a news conference that 11 students had been shot in the last two days.

– Enough of this. (…) It is extremely important to me as mayor of the city that residents know that we will not be held hostage, that we will use all available legal tools to ensure public health and safety of citizens, Parker said.

Reuters reported that the incident occurred after Monday’s shooting at another bus stop, which injured three students. However, it is still unclear whether the two shootings are related. Police investigating the case said no motives had yet been established and no arrests had been made.
