Philip Zimbardo became famous, among other things, for one of the most controversial scientific experiments, conducted in 1971. It involved selecting a group of volunteers who were divided into “guards” and “prisoners”. The experiment was designed to examine the psychological effects of simulating prison life and showed that “guards” showed sadistic traits towards prisoners.
