The local police chief said that the attack could have been Islamists’ revenge for the recent military operation in the neighboring province of Maguindanao, during which the army killed 11 fighters associated with armed Islamic groups.

President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., also known as Bongbong Marcos, “condemned the senseless and heinous acts committed by terrorists at the Mindanao State University.”
