The victim of ruthless scammers was a 79-year-old resident of Piaseczno, who received a phone call from a person claiming to be her daughter. “In tears and hysteria, she informed the senior that she had caused a road accident and that the money would protect her from arrest. The victim lost nearly PLN 100,000,” the police said.

As the aspirant Magdalena Gąsowska, a spokeswoman for the Piaseczno police, described in the message, a woman claiming to be her daughter called the victim on a landline number. “In tears and hysteria, she informed the senior that she caused a traffic accident in which a woman in the seventh month of pregnancy died. She added that contact with her mobile phone was not possible because it was secured by the police,” the policewoman described.

She took all the cash she had at home with her

She pointed out that after a while there was another call, which was already led by a man claiming to be a patron. “He demanded the amount of EUR 75,000, which was supposed to protect the senior’s daughter from temporary arrest” – informed the aspirant Gąsowska.

Despite the fact that the 79-year-old woman did not have such an amount, she took all the cash she had at home with her and then gave it to the woman at a place and time specified by the criminals. “The senior realized that she had fallen victim to a scam only after some time, when she made a phone call to her grandson” – explained the police officer.

Aspirant Gąsowska emphasized: “On the basis of this event, we call for caution in telephone conversations with strangers. Stories presented during them, even the most credible ones, should be verified every time by ending the connection and contacting a family member on a phone number known to us. Let us remember that police officers never ask for any money, nor do they inform about their activities.
