The body of a man who did not survive the fall from the top of Sokolica in the Pieniny Mountains was found by rescuers on Saturday, informed the Podhale Group of the Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service (GOPR). The circumstances of the tragedy are explained by the police and the prosecutor’s office.
The report about the accident at the top of Sokolica (747 m above sea level) was received on Saturday afternoon by the rescuers of the Podhalańska Group of GOPR. “During the operations, the body of a man who did not survive a fall from a great height was found. The rescuers were left with the sad duty of lifting the body into the valley” – informed the rescuers on social media.
The body of the man was lowered over 350 meters, using rope techniques, to the base of the summit, and then it was transported by pontoon to the Polish border, inform the mountain riders.

The action was attended by 20 rescuers from GOPR, as well as representatives of the Polish and Slovak guards of the Pieniny National Park.
Witnesses saw a dog on the spot that was supposed to look as if it was looking for an owner. That is why the services were notified. According to the Podhalańska Group of GOPR, the operational section of Szczawnica, the animal was sent to the police station in Krościenko (Lesser Poland).
