Polish-Ukrainian relations are very full, multi-faceted, there is a lot to be done in every dimension – said Dr. Piotr Łukasiewicz, chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Poland in Kiev, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24. At the same time, he assured that the strategic goal that unites both countries is to weaken Russia. He also said that the performance of his diplomatic mission, although not at the rank of ambassador, “is going on without any problems” and the Ukrainians approached it “with understanding.”
Piotr Łukasiewicz, chargé d'affaires of the Polish embassy in Kiev, talked about his mission in Ukraine.
– I came to Kiev with a deep conviction expressed towards the Ukrainians that they will win this war and Poland will help them. Our relationship is very complete, that is, multi-faceted, there is a lot to be done in every dimension and it completely takes up my time and the time of the fantastic team at the embassy I lead, he said.
Łukasiewicz was asked whether the fact that he is not in Kiev as an ambassador – in connection with the dispute between the Ministry of Diplomacy and the President Andrzej Duda– affects relations with Ukrainians.
– The hosts accepted the rank with understanding and assured full cooperation, I have no problem – he said. He added that the fulfillment of his diplomatic mission “is going on without any problems.”
The conflict between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the president regarding ambassadors has been going on since March. Then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski decided that over 50 ambassadors would end their mission, and several candidates submitted for approval by the previous management of the ministry would be withdrawn. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope “for concerted cooperation of the most important authorities in the country on this matter.” However, the president is blocking the nomination of new ambassadors.
Łukasiewicz: I did not learn the secret annexes to Ukraine's victory plan
Chargé d'affaires asked if he was familiar with secret annexes to the victory plan presented by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, he denied it.
– Certainly the capabilities that President Zelensky expects to receive, i.e. the ability to strike deep into the territory Russiacan only be provided by allies, from the G7 group rather than Poland. We can only guess that this is what these so-called secret annexes are about. However, they were not crucial when it came to presenting this victory plan by President Zelensky, said Łukasiewicz.
He added that “it was more about the issue of joining NATO and NATO aspirations, Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.”
Łukasiewicz on the “strategic goal of Poland and Ukraine”
Łukasiewicz was also asked about Polish-Ukrainian cooperation despite disputes, including in the economic sphere.
– The strategic goal of Poland and Ukraine, which unites us, and from which basically everything begins in this war, is to weaken Russia (…). If we accept this common strategic goal, which is very close to me – in fact, I base my diplomatic mission on it – as important and qualitatively significant, then all other matters will only be the job of diplomats, he said.
